OVERVIEW FOR MARCH, 2010

Water, water everywhere. As the Moon in Earth sign Virgo grew full while opposing the Sun and expansive Jupiter in the water sign of Pisces, one of the largest quakes ever was triggered on the coast of Chile. Our March sky, replete with Piscean energy, a promises more of the wet and the wild. Thankfully, the fact that Chile has a history of earthquakes and her people were psychologically and economically prepared, saved many lives. This quake was 500 times as strong as the Haitian quake, but most Chilean structures were reinforced, whereas in Haiti the people were too poor or otherwise unable to use anything other than unreinforced cinder block. Both quakes bore the mark of the ongoing tension between Saturn (structure) and Pluto (tearing down structure). This Saturn/Pluto tension will only grow, and astrologers are expecting more instability of governmental, corporate and building structures. Watch for the end of the month when Pluto and Saturn actively challenge the March 29 Full Moon.

Pisces is a spiritual sign. It is the source of the fish symbol that is often associated with Christian spiritual sacrifice. When Jupiter, ancient co-ruler of Pisces, joins the Sun, our spiritual quest and longing for a better tomorrow expands. Sacrifice and lofty ideals are all part of a story that begs for manifestation through service connected with the symbolism of the Virgo Moon. Adding to this sensitive energy that defies boundaries, during the February 28 Full Moon Neptune, Pisces ruler, remained in close proximity to wounded healer Chiron, in Aquarius, the sign of the people.

On a personal note, these planets are making direct contact with my own chart, and I have felt the call to service. Pisces is the last sign, the sign of endings, and, for the time being at least, I will be ending this column to run for the seat of California’s 38th Assembly District. If you are a reader, I hope to have earned your vote in November!

Beware the ‘Ides of March’ Julius Caesar was warned. Let’s hope our own ‘Ides of March’, bringing a March 15 New Moon in Pisces, simply delivers some early showers. This New Moon again includes expansive Jupiter as well as the Moon, the Sun, capricious Mercury and Uranus, planet of the sudden and unexpected, in watery Pisces. That’s a lot of water and Jupiter is there to make everything he touches bigger! So, grab your umbrella.

Mars turns direct on March 10, gaining speed and moving stalled situations along in a grandiose Leo kind of way. That’s good for Leos, as the ones I know have been stuck in the muck and want to move on. The brakes that have held us back will be released somewhere in each of our lives.

Hopefully, with all that Pisces, we won’t see dams literally being broken. The good news is that Saturn retrograde in Libra is working with Mars to help him gain speed in a controlled kind of way. For some it will be time to leave a dream behind., so don’t be surprised if all that Pisces energy has us crying a river over some kind of loss, imaginary or real.

The March 20 Vernal Equinox is the starting point of the ancient calendar, the commencement of the zodiacal New Year when the Sun starts to move above the Equator and day and night are equal in length. At this time, the Sun lines up with the aggressive sign of Aries, the energy of which is strong enough to encourage Spring’s new life along with new hope. Finally, we have a chance to bid adieu to the past and we’re primed to move forward.

By the Libra Full Moon of March 29, youthful explorer Mercury and love struck Venus join the Sun in Aries, and should be our new path. This Moon, in relationship oriented Libra, is joined by sensible, serious Saturn, adding a dose of gravity to our partnership issues and obligations, while Pluto continues to demand that we dismantle residue from the past. At the same time Libra’s special planet, Venus, connects with whimsical Mercury. Is it time for a working vacation? The news will be full of information, although it may be serious. Wherever we go, whatever we do, we will be writing and calling and moving forward.

Powerful Pluto hovers next to the North Node of Destiny right in between the Moon and Saturn on one side and the Sun, Mercury and Venus on the other. Reiterating a theme that has been with us for some time, the future will require a break with the past. The options before us demand some ruthless calculations. What and who will you need to unload to make your journey lighter?

Here are some ideas about how the March sky will manifest through the signs:

ARIES

Nobody really knows what’s going on, least of all you, Aries. But, the joys of life are pulling you like a magnet, and you’re ready to remove the barriers to love. Give in to your fantasies. On March 10 the gates fly open and the race is on. By March 20 your special planet Mars gains speed and the Sun enters your sign along with chatty Mercury and seductive Venus. It won’t be easy. But, hard work and a helping hand from a serious woman will get you where you need to be.

TAURUS

The beautiful people are indulging your whims. A little self discipline would be good for your heart - literally. When Mars moves forward on March 10 you’ll be in a better position to understand what’s going on with Mom or some household or family mystery.

March 15 brings some surprising events connected with those you consider friends that will have a positive effect on your public status. What you say and what you think will put you in the center of everybody’s radar.

Use the end of the month to meditate and focus energy on work and calm.

GEMINI

Are you ready for a new adventure? The wild and crazy, beautiful and abundant, with you at the helm, is a distinct possibility. Curl up by the fireplace before you embark, to restore your energy before Mars turns direct on March 10, and the action begins. A visit with siblings or a short vacation or even a book loaded with information will put you on the right track.

The March 15 New Moon is loaded with excitement. Remember to breathe and slow down when you can.

Frolicking with friends takes up your calendar as the month ends. Allow time for kids who are dealing with some serious issues and need your counsel.

CANCER

As a water sign ruled by the emotional Moon, Cancer is profoundly affected by the Pisces energy starting with the February Full Moon. If adventure has been on your to-do list, it is time to set sail.

Obligations to family, thanks to serious Saturn, may weigh you down, but Saturn is also helping the forward momentum of Mars like an anchor in rough financial seas. Enjoy the month end spotlight on your considerable accomplishments.

LEO

There’s a huge gap between what you have in your pockets and what you owe to your generous supporters. The best you can do is pay attention to details and work your little tail off. Your future depends upon the service you can provide.

Thankfully, on March 10 aggressive Mars in your sign finally turns direct, unleashing the power that has been dammed up since December. He works with serious Saturn to give you some gravity and purpose.

At month’s end, alliances entice. Before you reach for the brass ring pay attention to the foundation you’re standing on.

VIRGO

This is one of those times when someone else is grabbing the spotlight...sort of. You see, the Full Moon is in your sign, featuring all the work and attention to detail for which you’re famous. But, the glory is flowing to someone else, thanks to Jupiter, the Sun, beautiful Venus and eccentric, electric Uranus gathered in your house of significant others, be they friend or foe.

If money has been tight, you’ll be pleased to know that aggressive Mars turning direct on

March 10 should break the dam. As the month wanes you’ll find a way to engage in a serious, reasoned balancing of the coffers. On April 7 Saturn dips back into Virgo through July 21. You’ll get to review the foundation you built from September 2007 to October 2009.

On the job inspiration, exercise, yoga and cute little animals have the ability to pry open your heart chakra. Let them.

LIBRA

Serving and sacrificing, walking the dog and running around like a chicken with its head cut off have their spiritual rewards, but sometimes a little peace and quiet is attractive.

By now you should have a feeling for what serious Saturn’s journey through Libra holds for you: Navigating burdens connected with an ever changing family or household dynamic with diplomatic panache, for starters. It is time to buckle down and show what you’re made of. Next month, you get a little respite when on April 7 Saturn dips back into Virgo where he’ll stay through July 21. Then, Saturn will get serious in your sign where he’ll stay through October 5, 2012, challenging you to give the best you’ve ever given. Remember, with Saturn, the harder you work the greater the reward.

Aggressive Mars goes direct on March 10 while romancing your planet, lovely Venus, delivering friends and adoration - not too shabby.

SCORPIO

You may be swimming up stream and Saturn is making sure you’re plagued with doubts, but wow! Are you having fun or what? Bet on the kids to bring good luck, or just throw off your shackles and take a chance. You should find plenty of time to smile.

Not to say that Pluto is making communication any easier. If you’ve been getting some bad press thankfully, you can retrieve your reputation once Mars turns direct on March 10 in your status sector. At month’s end, remember that solitude and mediation can have a restorative effect.

SAGITTARIUS

March focuses the light of the Full Moon on your status and reputation. Notwithstanding this lunar gift, excitement and new opportunities are promised on a home front of by family pregnant with potential. You’ll just have to balance public and private life. Are you thinking of moving or remodeling?

If a legal matter has holding you back, a breakthrough begins when energetic Mars turns direct on March 10. Goals do require serious attention as the month ends, but inspiration is plentiful and creativity abounds. Listen to children with your heart.

CAPRICORN

Hard work and a lust for adventure pay off in March. Watch for a tendency to listen to those who have a lot of advice but may not know your heart. Your best future lies in taking the hard road with humor and faith.

Financial blocks begin to crumble when Mars turns direct on March 10. With love and assistance from home and family, the reputation you’ve fought so hard to acquire soars.

March 15 features an exciting, spontaneous journey or opportunity to meet with friends. If you’re around any teens, you’ll find their insights amazing.

The March 29 Full Moon shines on your career. Sure, past lapses are bound to come to light, but if you’ve worked hard, you’ll reap the rewards.

AQUARIUS

It has been all about resources and values and your right to be yourself since your special planet, electric and highly individualistic Uranus, entered sensitive Pisces in March 2003. But, this month features a build up of exciting fellow travelers for Uranus, and everything you’ve been working on is there for all to see.

Luck is with you, but whatever comes in may leave just as suddenly.

Relationship issues that have been stalled move forward when aggressive Mars turns direct on March 10. Inspiration and words of love flow at the March 15 New moon, adding to your confidence and coffers.

Balance flowery words with astute listening.

PISCES

You own this month, Pisces. Expansive Jupiter, the Sun, lovely Venus and quirky Uranus in Pisces enchant admirers. Mercury gives your voice some heft, especially around mid-month, when ideas carry the spark of genius. But, you also have your critics. Success will require that you temper your enthusiasm (the desire to over eat or over spend is strong) and pay attention to details. You can find your way when Mars turns direct on March 10.

At month’s end, finances show promise, but require some serious attention. Taxes, inheritance, sharing, intimacy, surgery and even end of life issues, especially where powerful groups or personal goals are concerned, occupy center stage.

Saturn moves back into Virgo on April 7 through July 21, when you get to review the partnership structures you built from September 2007 through October 2009.
